Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 13, 2026

Kigo (“Kigo,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a haiku journal app that lets you turn three photos and a few words into a card you can keep. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and what control you have over it. We tried to write it in plain English. If anything is unclear, email us at support@kigo-haiku.com.

Who we are

Kigo is operated by Norihiro Mukai, an individual business based in Tokyo, Japan.
Contact: support@kigo-haiku.com
Mailing address: available on request — email us and we will provide it.

Where Kigo is offered. Kigo is offered to users in the United States. We do not offer Kigo to, direct it at, or market it to individuals in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, and Kigo is not available on the App Store in those regions. Kigo is provided in English only, and prices are shown in U.S. dollars.

The short version

Information we collect

Account information. Your email address. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive a basic account identifier and the email address associated with that account, along with the display name and profile picture on that account when there is one. We show these to you inside the app so you can see which account you are signed in to, and we do not share them with anyone. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we only receive Apple’s private relay address.

Photos you upload. If you are subscribed, the photos you add to Kigo are stored in our cloud storage so you can reach your album from any device. If you are not subscribed, your photos are not stored on our servers — they stay on your phone. In both cases, enhancing a photo sends it to Google for analysis, as described under “Photos, AI enhancement, and faces” below. Photos may contain embedded metadata (EXIF) such as date, camera model, and sometimes GPS location. We process this metadata only as needed to provide the app. We never publish it and never share it for advertising.

Haiku text and cards. The words you write and the cards you create. While you are subscribed, these are stored in your account. If you are not subscribed, they stay on your device. (Photos are different — enhancing a photo always sends it to Google. See “Photos, AI enhancement, and faces” below.)

Usage information. Basic activity, such as how many cards you have created or saved, and whether you are on the free or paid plan. This lets us run the app and apply plan limits.

Technical information. IP address, device and browser type, and error logs, collected automatically when you use Kigo. We also use your IP address to limit how often the contact form can be submitted, so that it cannot be flooded. That record is deleted 90 days after it was last used.

A first-party identifier. We store a simple identifier on your device so the app behaves the same way each time you come back. It stays on your device and is not shared with anyone.

Support messages. If you email us, we keep your message and address so we can reply.

What we do not collect

We do not collect your precise location for tracking. We use no advertising SDKs, no third-party analytics, and no session-replay tools, and we do not build advertising profiles. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

How we use your information

We do not use your information to make automated decisions that produce legal effects about you.

We do not use your photos, haiku, or cards in our advertising, marketing, social media, or App Store materials unless we ask you and you say yes. If we ever want to feature something you made, we will ask first, tell you exactly where it would appear, and take no for an answer.

Photos, AI enhancement, and faces

When you enhance a photo, the photo is sent to Google’s Gemini API for analysis. Google’s system returns a set of adjustment values — brightness, contrast, highlights, shadows, saturation, color temperature, tone curve, clarity, and a few more — a simple true-or-false signal indicating whether a person appears in the photo, and a short written note about what the photo shows. We do not keep that note, and we never show it to you. The actual editing then happens on your own device.

About that face signal. We use it for one thing: to choose how to adjust the photo. We do not identify anyone. We do not create, use, or store any faceprint, face template, facial geometry, or landmark data. We do not match or group the same person across photos. We could not tell you who is in a photo, and we never try.

Your photos are not used to train AI models — not ours, and not Google’s. We use Google’s paid API tier, under which submitted content is not used to improve or train Google’s models and is handled under Google’s data processing terms. We do not use your photos for any purpose other than providing Kigo to you.

If a photo you upload includes other people, you are responsible for having their permission where that is required.

How we share information

We share information only with service providers who help us run Kigo, and only as much as they need:

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect someone’s safety, or in connection with a transfer of the business — in which case this Policy continues to apply until you are told otherwise.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Payments

Subscriptions are purchased through the App Store and processed by Apple. We never see or store your card number. We receive only your subscription status. Apple’s handling of your payment information is governed by Apple’s privacy policy.

Transaction records may be retained by us and by Apple for as long as tax and accounting laws require, even after you delete your account.

Where your data is stored

Kigo runs on Google Cloud, and our processing servers are located in the United States. Your information may be stored and processed in the United States and in other countries where Google operates. Laws in those countries may differ from those where you live.

How long we keep your data

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time from inside the app: Settings → Account → Delete permanently.

Deleting your account removes your photos, enhanced images, cards, albums, and account information from our systems. Some copies may remain briefly in routine backups before being overwritten, and some transaction records are kept where the law requires it. Anything you already saved to your own phone stays on your phone.

If you cannot reach the app, you can use our account deletion page or email support@kigo-haiku.com. We will verify that the account is yours before deleting it.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

California residents: the California Consumer Privacy Act gives you the rights above. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA, and we have not done so in the past 12 months. You may use an authorized agent to make a request.

To make a request, email support@kigo-haiku.com. We will verify your identity — usually by confirming you control the account email — and respond within the time the law allows.

If you use Kigo without an account, the only information we hold is technical information such as an IP address and error logs, which we cannot connect to you as a person. For that reason we may be unable to match a request to your data. You can clear the identifier stored on your device at any time by clearing your browser or app data.

Withdrawing consent

You can withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account. You can also turn off photo access in your device settings, though Kigo cannot enhance photos without it.

Security

We protect your information with encryption in transit, access controls, and the security features built into Google Cloud. No service can promise perfect security, but we take this seriously and will notify you if a breach affects your information and the law requires notice.

Children

Kigo is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Kigo is not directed to children, and we do not market it to children or to schools. If you are under 18, you may only use Kigo with a parent or guardian involved, and only a parent or guardian may purchase a subscription.

If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, email support@kigo-haiku.com and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we make a meaningful change, we will post the new policy here and update the date at the top. If the change is significant, we will also tell you in the app or by email.
